Welcome to StephenVantassel.com!

Stephen VantasselI have a wide variety of interests which means that I violate a cardinal rule of academic success, namely one must specialize and specialize some more. Generalists are not popular in today's world.

While trying to narrow my focus, I still am torn in various directions. Neverthless, the areas listed below have been of regular interest of mine for decades. Here they are in no particular order.

Wildlife Damage Management

Having run my own company in controlling problem wildlife, I continue to be interested in the field of resolving human-wildlife conflicts. Today, I am the webmaster of the Internet Center for Wildlife Damage Management (icwdm.org) which is the premiere site in North America for research-based wildlife damage management information.

Ecotheology

Ecothology is the application of theology to enviromental studies which seeks to ground our use of the environment theologically. While much of ecotheology is little more than pagan pantheism or panentheism, Christians are beginning to apply Scriptural principles to pressing environmental problems. My particular area of interest centers of human animal use. I am a significant critic of the animal rights protest industry as I believe they are not only lack scriptural support but are also espousing an ideology that is fundamentally eviromentally irresponsible. Check out my publications on the subject in my CV posted in the about link above.

Politics

I am very interested in how Christian teaching informs Christian political activity both in regards to international relations, economic policy, and criminal justice.
